This is a commonly held opinion. Many people do hold a concern that they don’t want to lose weight ‘too fast’.
I’d like to bust some of the myths around this idea and let you in on a few secrets too.
The art of losing body fat, which is the weight we all talking about losing, will always, follow a simple formula. Calories in – Calories out. If you reduce the number of calories going in, via food and drinks, and increase the number of calories going out , via exercise and increased metabolism, you lose body fat.
The opposite is of course true. If you increase the number of calories going in and /or reduce the calories going out, you put on body fat. To the extent that you follow the formula you can affect the speed of the fat loss.
Reduce your calorie intake by a lot and exercise a lot and you lose weight fast. It follows the formula.
So why is there concern about the speed?
There are a lot of things to consider in this equation, in this article we are going to consider just one.
Habit change.
To the extent that you change your habits around eating and exercise and you keep the new habit, you will keep the new body. Most of us need 21 days to get into a new habit and then many months of practise to be out of the ‘temptation zone’ of going back. Habits of eating and exercise must not only be activated they must be practised in many settings and over many days, so that you become a ‘master’ of the new habit.
When someone loses weight quickly, if they can maintain the new habits they will maintain the new body. Most of us though will not. Our old pattern and habits are like a ‘well oiled machine’ we like them, they are easy. It’s like driving your car and crossing your arms, easy, practised.
Changing habits is very possible, it’s what our great coaches at Reach fitness help you to do. We do help our clients to lose body fat fast because it inspires them to keep going . We are their external motivation until they see the results and get motivated from the inside. From there we provide the continuous support to encourage them to practise and keep the new habit until it becomes the ‘easy way’.
Is it safe to lose weight fast?
The short answer is yes, if you have the right advise from a professional to help you to do it well and the right support to help you to enjoy the results you have achieved.
Best of luck, Mary
